Jones Act: Mesothelioma claims
Maritime workers spent careers in engine rooms, boiler spaces, and shipyards built with asbestos at nearly every turn. Decades later, some develop mesothelioma, a rare and aggressive cancer that forms in the lining of the lungs, abdomen, or heart. Asbestos is the number one cause identified by the Environmental Protection Agency, and there is no known safe level of exposure to the substance. For seamen and shipyard workers, this risk was not incidental, but built into the very structure of the vessels upon which they worked and lived.
