Volunteer fire departments
Although Nevada has a relatively small population, many rural communities depend heavily on volunteer fire departments, including Bunkerville, Searchlight, Sandy Valley, and Mount Charleston. Volunteer firefighters encountered AFFF while responding to highway tanker crashes, fuel storage fires, mining and industrial fires, and airport mutual-aid incidents.
Fire training facilities
The Nevada State Fire Marshal's Fire Service Training Bureau oversees firefighter certification and statewide fire service education, with live-fire training complying with NFPA 1403 standards. The Clark County Fire Academy in Las Vegas provides approximately 20 weeks of hands-on fireground training, while Nellis Air Force Base conducts realistic aircraft fire scenarios alongside local departments.
