Legacy PFOS AFFF

Legacy PFOS AFFF video

Manufactured by 3M since the 1960s, and sold under the "Light Water" brand in the U.S., this foam contains PFOS and perfluorohexane sulfonate (PFHxS). Although it has not been manufactured since 2002, it remains the primary contaminant found at impacted sites due to its long shelf life. Their use throughout military facilities, airports, and firefighting training grounds contributed to widespread contamination of the soil and water. The accumulation of these toxic substances led to continuous exposure of firefighters who constantly used these products in their daily operations and interventions.

Risk of cancer from exposure to legacy PFOS AFFF

Besides accumulating in the blood of exposed individuals, PFAS accumulate throughout life, especially in the liver and kidneys, increasing the risk of developing cancer. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the American Cancer Society (ACS), and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have provided evidence that exposure to PFAS, including PFOA and PFOS, is directly linked to these cancer types. The EPA has classified the chemicals in the foam products as "emerging contaminants", meaning that the health hazards and environmental risks associated with AFFF are significant.

Quality legal assistance for civilian and military firefighters exposed to legacy PFOS AFFF

If you are a civilian (career or voluntary), or military firefighter who has been exposed to AFFF and later was diagnosed with a linkable cancer, you have the right to hold the manufacturers accountable for the harm they caused and receive financial compensation. While no amount of money can erase the pain you suffer, the compensation can ease the financial burdens associated with the injury and potentially hold the negligent entity responsible for its actions.
