Studies find that PFAS exposure is associated with hormone disruption and breast cancer
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) found suggestive evidence that PFAS exposure was associated with breast cancer. One of the studies reviewed by NASEM found that perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS), a type of PFAS, was associated with estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer or ER+ breast cancer. According to the American Society, the majority of male breast cancer cases are hormone-positive, including ER+ breast cancer.
PFAS are endocrine-disrupting chemicals. Multiple studies have suggested that they may disrupt the hormonal balance of estrogen and thyroid hormones, which may contribute to the development of different cancers, including breast cancer.
You can file a PFAS exposure claim for your male breast cancer diagnosis
Male breast cancer is exceptionally rare. If you developed male breast cancer after PFAS exposure at a contaminated military base, your condition may not be a coincidence. With more studies emerging about PFAS chemicals and the increased risk of MBC, you may be able to establish a connection between your condition and your PFAS exposure history.
