There are several studies, investigations, and other forms of scientific research from scientists, reputable institutions, organizations, and even regulators that associate PFAS, also known as ‘forever chemicals’ found in AFFF, with serious health issues like liver cancer. Some of the notable findings include:

• Environ Res (2019): A cohort study that examined male factory workers exposed to PFAS. Scientists discovered this: employees with elevated 'cumulative internal doses' of PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid) have greater risks of dying from liver cirrhosis or liver cancer.
• Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California (2022): Individuals found to have higher concentrations of perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) in their blood are 4.5 times more likely to have hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the most common form of liver cancer that claims the lives of at least 12,000 Americans every year.
• International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classification: The IARC classified PFOA as 'carcinogenic to humans’ and PFOS as 'possibly carcinogenic to humans'. Both PFOA and PFOS are detectable in aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF), a type of firefighting foam known for its effectiveness in combating Class-B fires.
