Flexboard was similar to plywood but unlike plywood it had an increased flexibility and fire resistance. It was also seen as a more cost-effective alternative. Chrysotile (white asbestos) was the reason behind the flexboard’s properties, up until the 1980’s.

The workers that handled the contaminated flexboard were being exposed to asbestos when they damaged these sheets in any way or form. In order to install this product, the workers had to cut it for size, releasing the asbetos toxic fibers into the atmosphere. You could have been exposed if:

  • You found yourself working in old structures
  • You helped install or remove asbestos flexboard
  • You performed demolition work
  • You did remodeling work in old buildings
  • You entered in contact with the clothes or the gear covered in asbestos dust
