PRODUCT USE
The raw asbestos needs to be broken up and twisted into fibers. This new cotton-like material has an increased durability, strength and flame resistance. Due to these properties, asbestos yarn was used heavily in many industries.
Despite its abilities, asbestos yarn eventually got damaged, either from the passing of time or from being subjected to fire or extreme heat. When this started happening, the fibers of asbestos turned friable posing a risk to anyone that interacted with the asbestos yarn. You could have been exposed if:
- You found yourself working in old structures
- You performed plumbing or duct work
- You performed maintenance work on boilers
- You performed plumbing or duct work
