Millwrights

As a millwright, you had to perform the majority of your work in construction-related jobs and as a result, you were exposed to dangerous quantities of asbestos for an extended period of time. The machines that required the millwright's attention were using asbestos-containing insulation in order to prevent heat damage. While working on these types of machinery, millwrights would frequently have to cut and fit asbestos coated metal and gaskets for the job the be complete.

During the process of cutting and grinding these parts, the millwright was in danger of inhaling the asbestos fibers released into the atmosphere.

The job also required the millwright to dismantle the outdated equipment and machines that were beyond repair. This involved removing the asbestos-containing insulation and taking apart the machine entirely. By doing so, the asbestos particles got disturbed posing a danger for the worker.

The risk for these people to develop an asbestos-related disease was extremely high. The extended latency period of illnesses like mesothelioma or asbestosis means that the worker starts showing symptoms when his or her body is already weakened by age.
