Longshoremen

Between the 1940s and the 1980s, many of the ships’ parts were made using asbestos or were insulated with it due to its fire-resistant properties. This meant that there were high levels of exposure to the toxic fibers for everyone found onboard.

Claim Evaluation

The asbestos-insulated parts of the ships represented the main points of exposure for the longshoremen as any disturbance to them would have made the asbestos fibers airborne, contaminating the limited space of the ship. Another way of being subjected to the toxic particles was carrying cargo on-board (asbestos-containing products).

For the longshoremen that used to work in asbestos infested environments, the risk of developing later illnesses like lung cancer, mesothelioma or asbestosis is extremely high.

How can we help longshoremen who were exposed to asbestos?

Lung cancer, mesothelioma, and asbestosis are the main diseases that affected the lives of the longshoremen exposed to an asbestos-contaminated environment. If you think you have worked in such an environment, contact us in order to get screened for the presence of asbestos fibers in your lungs as the diseases related to this mineral are known for having a long period of incubation, in some cases up to 30 years.

If you have been exposed to asbestos from the time you worked as a longshoreman, you are entitled to reparations from the companies responsible. We will make sure to file claims with the asbestos trust funds and obtain for you the monetary compensations that will cover your treatment costs. Additionally, our attorneys will file a claim with the VA, since they also offer compensation to veterans injured by military asbestos exposure.
