PRODUCT USE
Asbestos cement products were usually made by mixing Portland cement with asbestos fibers for reinforcement.
As long as the cement didn’t sustain any damage, it was relatively safe. The exposure risks exponentially increased when it started to crack and particles of asbestos were released into the air. Because cement products were used in many locations, they presented one of the main factors of asbestos exposure. You could have been exposed if:
- You found yourself on construction sites where asbestos cement was used
- You worked directly with asbestos cement products
- You helped apply or remove asbestos cement
- You performed demolition work
