PRODUCT USE
This spray-on coating was one of the most low-cost and easiest ways to apply insulation. The asbestos content in these products ranged from 5% to almost 50%. The toxic mineral gave this insulation product the ability to resist fires and become more durable.
Although spraying would pose a certain risk for the worker, asbestos spray was most dangerous after it was applied as the hardened coating could have turned friable with the passing of time. This state would make the asbestos fibers contained in the coating highly unstable. You could have been exposed if:
- You worked directly with asbestos spray
- You did remodeling work in old structures
- You performed demolition work
- You entered in contact with the clothes or the gear covered in asbestos dust
