GAF Corporation

Established in 1886 as the American branch of I.G. Dyes, a German chemical conglomerate, American I.G. got its name change in 1939 to General Aniline and Film Corporation after acquiring General Aniline Works and merging with Agfa-Ansco Corporation. In 1965, GAF purchased Ruberoid Corporation, a manufacturer of roofing products. With this purchase, GAF also became the owner of an asbestos mine found in Virginia. This made the GAF Corporation become the leading supplier of asbestos materials in the state. The asbestos contained in their products affected the workers found in the roofing and siding industries.

GAF Corporation employees exposed to asbestos

As one of the major asbestos companies in the U.S. during the last century, GAF Corporation would manufacture a wide range of hazardous products, such as cement and millboard, as well as own a large mine in Virginia. Due to the astounding number of lawsuits filed by former injured workers, the company was forced to request bankruptcy protection in 2001, which was granted only in 2009 when their asbestos trust fund was also created. Since then, GAF Corporation has paid out more than $1.5 billion to the people it exposed to asbestos and currently has $770 million left for future claimants.

Secondary asbestos exposure, a serious concern for the family members of GAF Corporation workers

Not only did asbestos exposure dramatically impact the lives of workers, but it occasionally took a heavy toll on the health of family members as well. While it does not always result in disease, secondary exposure is responsible for approximately 10% of asbestos-related diagnoses nowadays. By breathing in the toxic fibers their fathers or husbands would regularly carry home from work, plenty of children and wives unknowingly increased their risk of developing lung disease, as well as multiple forms of cancer. As the diseases asbestos exposure is responsible for occurring within several decades from the initial contact, the majority of people have only recently come to suffer from such illnesses.

If you believe your diagnosis is the consequence of secondary asbestos exposure, we strongly encourage you to contact our attorneys as soon as possible. They will promptly assess your case and strive to claim the maximum financial compensation you are eligible for from the asbestos trust fund of GAF Corporation, a process that requires no litigation. Over the past 30 years, we have recovered more than $1.4 billion on behalf of asbestos victims and their families and will gladly help you, too.
