United Gilsonite Laboratories
Workers Exposed to Asbestos
The company was founded in 1932 as a manufacturer of paints, sealants, and coatings. UGL has its headquarters in Pennsylvania, running production factories in Nevada, Mississippi, and Illinois. As asbestos was a relatively cheap fireproofing agent, United Gilsonite Laboratories used this mineral from the 1950s until the 1970s in manufacturing some of their products. By doing this, they ignored the dangers the company’s workers and the people interacting with these contaminated materials were put in.
